Case Study
PrizePicks
Background
This is a personal case study of the work Cam Cress did while leading a design project for PrizePicks. One of the fastest growing daily fantasy sports companies in the country.
The project was to introduce Live Scoring experience for lineups.
This lead to a massive lift in user engagement, increasing in app time by over 235% for the 2-5 million daily active users. It also increased social sharing during the game by over 10x.
Overview
PrizePicks is a simple app. You pick 2-6 players to a lineup and pick whether they will go over or under a projection. For example, do you think Nikola Jokic will get over or under 23 points in tonights game?
The problem was, once you placed a lineup there was no reason to come back during the game. Users couldn't really track their players progress while the game was happening.
In the user research we saw a massive decline in engagement. This turned into a How Might We question: "How can we make it exciting to watch the game and track picks live?"
Main Problems to solve:
No structure to lineup groups made it difficult to track certain lineups and players
Visual UI was outdated and not systemized
No live scoring and tracking of game and picks
Sharing CTA was hidden in a context menu
Journey Map
Our user research team discovered a massive gap in drop offs after a user placed a lineup. We conduced a series of qualitative interviews to understand what people did after they placed a lineup and while the game was being watched.

Improved designs
I led the redesign of the entire lineup experience. Improved the grouping and context of player performance and contextual details of live games, making it fun to track lineups and players - during the game.
Conclusion
The project was a massive success for the business. It had over 2 million unique users used it within the first 2 days of the release. Generating over 254 Million events logged and played a part in a +45% YoY growth in Monthly Active Members (MAM).
